This is the first lesson out of 6 that teaches you the most important elements of search engine optimization. You should read one of these 6 courses EVERY day so that you can have enough time to “digest” all the information and put them to the test. Now today is DAY #1 and I will start with the first course on the list:

Choosing “THE” keywords to optimize for

1) The first step in search engine optimization is choosing the right keywords that you want to rank well for on the search engines. This is very easy to do nonetheless many webmasters FAIL HERE! Ok for this course I will be using a website about “jokes” as an example. First you need to use the very powerful keyword tool that Overture offers, you can see it here:
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

2) Now the second step is to put “jokes” and search for it in the overture keyword tool. The results that I received are shown here:

Count Search Term
927525 joke
116589 funny joke
65099 blonde joke
60135 dirty joke
47577 joke of the day
38086 good joke
37347 yo mama joke
35360 joke online prank
30615 clean funny joke

As you can see there are thousands of searches done monthly using these keywords and by ranking well in search engines you can get all these visitors for FREE! Wait don’t get too excited and DONT try to rank for the keyword “joke” because if you search in Google for that keyword you will find out that there are more than 15 MILLION pages competing for that specific keyword! So what do you do? Well start small and target less competitive keywords to get some good traffic to begin with and then target the “BIG FISH”! Alright for example you can target the keyword “yo mama joke” which is searched for approximately 37347 times every month and YET there are only 310,000 pages competing for it! You CAN rank very well for this keyword and be on the FIRST page to receive more than 30,000 hits to your website every month. That’s 1000 visitors everyday for one keyword FREE!

3) We have chosen a keyword that is not very competitive but gets quite a lot of searches and it is “yo mama jokes”. You can choose a few other keywords like “blonde joke” which has less than 1 million pages competing. And “joke online prank” with only 200,000 competitors.

4) Now take a few minutes to think of a keyword that is related to your website and repeat steps 1 to 3. It’s easy and wont take more than a few minutes. Choose the right keywords and wait for lesson two!

WOW I must have you thinking now, what if you start competing for the more competitive keywords later and get even more visitors! Well you can once you master this and you will hit the million page views mark in no time. This won’t happen overnight nor will it happen in days. This will take weeks of hard work but the end result is EXPLOSIVE LASER TARGETED TRAFFIC for FREE.

“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” - Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway’s Billionaire Chairman)

Take a few minutes everyday to read the courses and try them on your website. All this information is FREE so why not spend some time and learn it? You have nothing to lose.

If you would like to contact me anytime and either complain (why would you!) or give me your testimonial then feel free to do so anytime. I’m there if you need any more help also.

Ever since Jim Edwards and I wrote our best-selling
e-book, “How to Write and Publish Your Own OUTRAGEOUSLY
Profitable e-Book — in as little as 7 days!,” people have
written to us for advice on how to pick a good subject for
their e-book. While we’ve addressed that question in our
book and in other articles, last night I came across a
surprising new way to help you pick a million-dollar winner.

Last night I was reading a wonderful old book on
creativity. It’s titled ‘Direct Creativity’ and written by
Robert Crawford. It’s dated and copies of it sell for a
lot of money today but it still contains some pure gold.
For example, this amazing insight from the book lit up my
brain cells:

“Most things you consider have several possibilities,
not just one.”

At first glance that tip might not mean anything to you.
But imagine you’re looking for a topic for your next e-book
— and you want to be sure it will be a winner. Crawford
explained his principle this way:

“You are an author. You lack a good subject for a book.
You have been reading ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin.’ But are there
not other down-trodden people in the world? There might be
a story of a down-trodden Indian, or down-trodden African,
or a down-trodden Eskimo, or a down-trodden Chinaman, or
maybe a down-trodden white person in a northern city.
Perhaps you choose the story of an American Indian because
you feel that you have a mission in the world to improve
his lot.”

Do you see how this works? I love this insight into
creativity. What it means for you and your next e-book is
this:

Search online for the best-selling books of a few
decades ago or even of a century or two ago. Just as ‘Uncle
Tom’s Cabin’ was a classic and controversial book of the
1800’s, and one you could adapt into an original e-book of
your own today, there are countless other once mega-hit
books out there that time has forgotten. You can find such
a book, model it, and write a new e-book based on its basic
and already proven concept.

For example, John Bear wrote a book called ‘The #1 New
York Times Best-Seller.’ It was a reference book consisting
of facts about the 484 books that had been New York Times
best-sellers (up to 1992, when the book was published). You
could flip through it, look for a book that was successful
decades ago, and then write an e-book based on the nature
of the best-selling book. The chances are extremely high
that your new e-book would be a success, too.

Why is this so? The truth is, there are only a finite
number of topics available to us as authors. I once read
that there are only 36 possible plot situations. You can
have millions of novels and screenplays written, but only
out of those 36 plots. (See ‘The Thirty-Six Dramatic
Situations’ by Georges Polti.) The same holds true for
nonfiction. The key is to find a winner from the past and
update it with your own style and your own message for
today.

Of course, you still have to write a good book. That’s
where the e-book Jim and I wrote can help you, too. But for
a creative way to determine your next e-book, this
brilliant method is priceless.

In short: Do a little research, find a successful book
of the past, and model it to write a winner of your own
today.

Go for it!

About the Author

Joe Vitale of www.mrfire.com is author of numerous books,
including the international #1 best-seller, “Spiritual
Marketing,” the best-selling e-book, “Hypnotic Writing,”
the best-selling Nightingale-Conant audioprogram, “The
Power of Outrageous Marketing,” and the best-selling
e-book (with Jim Edwards) “How to Write and Publish Your
Own OUTRAGEOUSLY Profitable e-Book — in as little as 7
days!” See www.7dayebook.com

So, you want to freelance as an editor, writer, copy editor, copywriter, graphic designer, proofreader, etc.? But, how do you go about it?

My mother was fond of saying, “If you want to know something, go directly to the source.” Taking this advice to heart, I interviewed professionals in the industry for the e-book, How to Really Make a Living as an Editorial Freelancer.

Publishers, editorial directors, human resource managers and editors, among others were a vocal lot regarding freelancers and what they should/should not do to get their foot in the door.

What nuggets of information can you glean from them? Here are five concrete points about which they were adamant.

1. Know your craft: Most clients like to see direct experience. This usually means working in the industry full-time for a number of years before going out on your own as a freelancer.

A vice president of publishing at a major trade publisher says, “Experience is key for us. Three to five years minimum, with a proven track record on our types of books. We don’t linger over education, but I suspect most have a four-year degree.”

As an editorial recruiter, I generally advise two to three years of full-time experience in the position/discipline for which you want to freelance. Five or more is better. Also, provide samples published or unpublished. If unpublished say so.

2. Time: Don’t pester and/or waste the time of those in a position to hire. One editor responded, “Don’t call me and call me and call me. I would actually NOT hire someone who calls me after I’ve said I’d call them.”

Additionally, find the right person to contact. Most agreed that you should bypass the human resources department and contact the editorial department directly. Why? It is rare that materials will be passed on to the right person, especially if they are in another department.

3. Rate: Most companies have pre-determined rates and wiggle room is tight, if nonexistent.

An editorial director at an educational publisher commented, “We have a standard freelancer’s rate for whatever discipline is involved copyediting, graphic design, etc. Occasionally, a project will come along for which we’ll make special arrangements. These can include special rates, working on premises, etc. I also try to be flexible while working within departmental budgets.”

Usually, after you’ve worked with a client for a while, you can adjust your fees. Although, not by much. Editorial, especially general trade, is notoriously low paying.

4. Contact: Email seems to be the preferred method. However, to cover all bases, if you contact via email first, send a follow-up note with your credentials via snail mail. Remember, keep all contact brief and to the point. And please, do not send samples unless/until they are requested.

I personally have received books, an envelope full of clippings that weighed more than two pounds, and a magazine or two before I ever spoke with a prospect.

These are not more likely to get you a call back. If anything, it’s presumptuous and can frustrate a potential client. Desks are usually pretty full without figuring out where to put more stuff. Above all, if you send it, do not expect it back; even if you send a SASE.

If your skills are sufficient AND a client has the need for your type of service, your resume / credentials alone will get you an interview.

5. Professional Presentation of Material: A Director of Public Information at a large nonprofit noted, “This should be implicit, but I wouldn’t be mentioning it if in fact it was any material that is sent should be neatly presented and visually clear with no typos, correct grammar, etc. Material should demonstrate that: (1) you know your job; and (2) you care about it, hence the potential client will care also.”

An editor at a financial magazine added, “On a resume, I look for copy editing accuracy and consistency (if you can’t copy edit your own resume, how can I count on you to copy edit my magazine?).”

I know you’re sending out tons of materials to many contacts. To avoid this problem, try to spend one day organizing and preparing your material, and another day to do the actual mailing.

I’ve found that most errors occur when you try to do everything in one day. Breaking marketing down into parts helps to simplify the process, thereby cutting down on the chance of mistakes.

So, there you have it. Although no one method can guarantee success, focusing on these areas will boost your chance of landing more clients.

Most writers have a gift for some, or even several, aspects of the craft, but no one is a natural at the whole process.

Writing is a complex craft starting with words–their choice, their arrangement, and their effect. This use of words will depend on the writer’s purpose that may be to inform, to entertain, to persuade, or to delight. As a result the craft is divided into three categories: non-fiction, fiction, and poetry, but the first consideration is the mechanics of writing.

The mechanics of writing consists of knowledge of grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling, and style. Although a writer may not be aware of grammar, he or she automatically makes use of it in order to be understood by the reader. The English language follows certain rules of words, their order, and their meaning if one is to comprehend the purpose of the writer. As well as syntax, in writing certain customs in the use of punctuation marks have been established and are acceptable by most writers and readers. Spelling has also been established by practices acceptable to authors and their readers. Then the manner in which the writer uses all these mechanics begets his or her style.

Now writing can be divided in three broad classes: non-fiction, fiction, and poetry, which are sub-divided into still many more species. With this great variety, it becomes obvious that no writer is proficient at all these aspects of the craft. Some are adroit at writing non-fiction, be it reporting, informing, or persuading, while others are gifted in fiction, be it short stories or novels, while still others are endowed in poetry, be it haiku or epic.

Each class has its special characteristics: non-fiction requires a choice of purpose, a theme, a topic, and the abilities to put words, sentences, and paragraphs together to achieve that aim. Here again, some writers are better than others at this. Some write articles, others essays, and others books. Each aspect of the craft can be developed, but some have a natural affinity and aptness to a component of the business, yet none is adapt all details. One may be strong in description, another in narrative, or another in argument. A gifted writer usually excels in several aptitudes, but none are successful with all.

Similarly, in fiction, some authors excel at characterization, others plot is their forte, while still others outshine in style or artistry. If one looks at the great writers, one sees immediately that some excel at characterization. Characters that they created are remain in our minds and continue to be remembered from generation to generation. Charles Dickens characters are unforgettable. Others excel at plot; Jules Verne’s plots are as realistic today as when he wrote them. Of course, there is the master of all, William Shakespeare, whose characters, plots, and artistry live on from age to age.

Poetry is a genre of it’s own with axioms of its own. But here also, certain aspects of the craft are more developed in some poet than in others. Some concentrate on form, while other on content. Each poet perfects one or two aspects of the craft, but seldom all. Again Shakespeare comes to mind, but even he was not completely proficient entirely.

No writer is entirely excellent in every aspect of writing although every one would like to be. The best one can do is to develop those areas that interest them most.

Charles O. Goulet has a BA in history and BEd in English literature. He has written several historical novels that are available at Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Barnes and Noble and many other bookstores

Certainly sometimes you are assigned with the topic, but sometimes you have the possibility to choose one. It seems so easy yet so many students either have failed their assignments or did not write the paper they wanted to because no interesting, exciting and challenging topic had been chosen. Many students follow some simple and mistaken route- they choose the topics according to its popularity-if it is popular nowadays to evaluate this event or research this subject, than it might be worth my while to write the term paper on this subject as well. However, your interest, the topic that attracts your attention is what matters.Once famous Chinese philosopher Confucius said: “Choose a job you like and you will never have to work a day in your life.” What pertains to the life in general, pertains to the process of writing and designing of your term paper. Your aptitude to the term paper as well as your enthusiasm and your eagerness with which you will research, depends on that.

Your term paper will be more interesting to read and will gain consequently more points if you choose the topic that really concerns you rather than pick up the topic that will leave you indifferent. Once you have chosen the term paper topic, you can start organizing it. Your topic, whatever subject you research should not be too broad. At this stage it might be advisable to consult with your tutor. He will be able to advise you on this point; however most of the tutors require making of the topic more specific. For example one should not choose the topic “History of American continent in the 20th century”. Unless you write some 100 pages book, you will not be able to research and write a detailed story of American continent of the 20th century. It might be advisable in this case to narrow your topic to the following: “The collapse of France and its influence on political life of American continent in 1940″.

However, one should not try to choose the topic that are highly specialized or too technician or on which there is not enough material. Once the topic of your term paper has been chosen, you can start investigating and researching available material to gain a term paper idea on the subject. Start with one of the most popular and one of the most convenient sources of the information- online network. However, you should be very cautious in using of different sites. Remember, that some of the sites contain outdated or not credible information, and some of them just advertise the product and do not provide any information. You can use many online libraries or databases that contain useful and credible sources.

Domains that have such endings as gov, edu, and org. should be considered more credible ones; however you should treat information on other websites cautiously. Do not forget that many tutors and some of the educational institutions might not recognize web sites as the credible and trustworthy source, so it you can turn to more traditional ones -books and printed journals. Finally, whatever sources you use, read guides on plagiarism before you start using other sources for your term paper.

It appears rather obvious to me that the climate change and global warming issue between scientists is quite a bit of posturing and it appears that the two percent increase in overall atmospheric temperature over the last 50 years is rather insignificant. It also appears to me that a hole in the ozone is not the end of the world.

But either way if we are truly concerned about the climate change no matter if it is being caused by mankind or not; we also need to consider that perhaps we can do something about its large swings and hyperextension of the pendulum arm. How so you ask?

Well, you see, if the planet gets too hot then the ice caps melt, the ocean current changes, we have a wicked wild weather for a while and then we go into an ice age. But, if we can slowly switch from hot to cold and then from cold too hot over many hundreds of years, then the slow change of the cycle will not affect human civilization to a large degree or cause economies to collapse and civilizations to crumble.

However, if mankind causes and increase in the cold cycle or in this case a warm cycle, then a how far that pendulum will swing. It behooves us to study the weather, the patterns, the cycles and the past to determine how best to proceed without doing the wrong thing. Consider this in 2006.
